National Motorcycle Rights Issues
You Should Know
It's spring and this year's bike week season fast approaching, a lot of motorcycle drivers head on the roads and byways that weave through this glorious nation with motorcycle helmets and back packs. We are all making our itineraries or at least dreaming about an awesome riding season loaded with memories that will be remembered for a long time. There are countless places to visit and things to see that it can be hard to choose where to ride. The very last thing on our brain is having our time disturbed by something as simple as a traffic stop. When you are driving through this brilliant country, every state has their own laws regarding motorcycles and you must know that just because your bike is 100 % legal in your home state, it may not be in another. Something as simple as handlebar height can get you a ticket. After you've been stopped, the local enforcer can start asking questions and a chain of offenses may be identified on top of that. Before you ride, find out more about the laws where you'll be driving.
Nationwide
In the past couple of years, we have discovered motorcycle-only check points. Now you ask ,, are these stops authorized? Well, the problem here is that while our state reps try to manage things out, we might be taking one on the chin. Hopefully, you won't ever have to be slowed at any checkpoint, especially a motorcycle-only stop. If this happens to you, it certainly is better if you have your paperwork ready and if you are cited for something in an event of a checkpoint, please don't sign that you are guilty. Request a hearing and take time to give it a shot with the judge. This can tie up the legal court system and at least you have a strike to express yourself and there is a documentation of the judge's decision. Additionally, please write your congressman and tell them that you believe your rights are being dishonored and you want them to put a stop to this type of harassment. If you're traveling, this might be not possible. If you've been caught up in a motorcycle-only checkpoint stop, we want to hear your story.
Virginia
The A.M.A. declared that on Feb . 13, 2012, the Virginia State Senate with one voice approved the bill, HB-187, that discourages motorcycle-only checkpoints and at present the bill heads for Governor Bob McDonnell for consideration. If you want to join the campaign, make sure you simply call the governor and address him that you would like him to authorize HB-187 into legislation. You can contact Governor Bob McDonnell at (804) 786-2211. This bill was brought in mainly because the Arlington County Police Department in Virginia put in place a motorcycle-only checkpoint within the Rolling Thunder on the 28th of May. The state of North Carolina recently approved the same bill into law that prevents motorcycle-only checkpoints.
This is a real great demonstration of our Motorcycle Rights Organizations working. A number of people specified to the A.M.A about the checkpoints and a call to action went out. House delegate, C. Todd Gilbert, initiated H-B 187 and with your support, his effort along with bike group wins a major fight. If you ride, it is important to determine what is good for you. To be sure that your message is heard, remember to take the time to be involved. Say you decided to have others carry out the battle for you, guarantee that they can be on the same page like you. You may not share the same view on every issue, but at least your opinion will be recognized.

Moreover, the A.M.A. has reported that the house board handed down a bill to require the E.P.A. to research independent scientific review relating to the effects of 15% ethanol. The bill, H.R.3199, was introduced by Rep Jim Sensenbrenner (R- WI.). The E.P.A. only used a single US DOE assessment and harried this product to the market. This bill too requires our support. Not only our motorcycles, but every gas engine is at risk of major problems that will likely be caused by 15% ethanol. Our engines just weren't devised for this kind of fuel. The E.P.A. should never have allowed the production of this gasoline without having been screened more thorough. Using this E15 fuel will tamper the manufacturers' warranties and will eventually ruin gasoline engines not intended for this sort of fuel. There is currently no motorcycle among the list of motor vehicles that were intended for E15.
Please look at the gasoline pumps. This fuel may be in your favorite filling station now. Air cooled engines are specially in risk as well as high performance and off-road engines. This gasoline will burn too hot and cause engine damage or breakdown. Read your owner's handbook when you have any queries concerning the effects of E15 on your engines. We just want to thank the viewers for showing their support. The next generation will probably have numerous fights to pass through while conserving our motorcycle legal rights. We like to say thanks to our service women and men, past and present, that defend and fight for our freedom.
